Featuring The Amrita Project – June 17, 2016

bollywoodbounce Sabine and Haley of the Amrita Project share a life-long love of dancing in many styles, including Bollywood, Bhangra, Bellydance, and sword dancing.

Sabine is a pioneer of her unique style of sword dancing, and travels to teach sword dance workshops around the Northwest and beyond. Every year she teaches her “Dangerous Sword Dance Intensive” to Eugene at her studio, Celebration Belly Dance and Yoga, where she also teaches weekly classes in Improvisational Tribal Belly Dance. Haley began studying belly dance with her mother at age 6, and Sabine and Haley performed together as “Daughters of Tribalation” when she was just 10 years old. Haley studied Bhangra dance with Sat Pavan Khalsa through middle school, while Sabine studied Bollywood and Bhangra with Samantha Riggs, and they merged their experiences to create Bollywood & Bhangra dance choreographies together. Haley has performed sword dance and taught and performed Bollywood dance group choreographies for the Inter-nation Celebration at Whitman College, where she is a student. She also enjoys African Dance, Flamenco, Hooping, and Poi.

The Amrita Project is the result of this dynamic mother-daughter dance collaboration, and the two enjoy dancing in the improvisational tribal style, creating original choreography for sword dance duets, and taking inspiration from Bollywood movies and dancers for their Bollywood dance creations.
