Yemaya performing at OCF, 2011 Yemaya has been a devoted professional of American Style Oriental Dance for over 20 years. Her Lebanese heritage has produced an innate ability to express the dance from within and her creativity, musicality and movement is presented with obvious integrity for the culture she represents.

Yemaya is a second-generation belly dancer and was raised in an environment of Middle Eastern dance, music and culture. Taught by her Mother and Mentor, Kameal, Yemaya has had excellent training in the traditional style of American Oriental. She has continued her dance education throughout the years studying with many renowned Belly Dancers, which has lead to her unique and captivating style that is set beautifully between Traditional and Modern Style Oriental Dance.

She has a strong background in jazz dance and extensive training in drama and stage production. Yemaya has directed her own belly dance troupe and has assisted in the artistic direction of two professional Belly Dance troupes; Nejmah and Raks Awalim (Now “Bellydance Soulfire”) of the Pacific Northwest. She is also one of the resident dancers and leading stage designer of the Oregon Country Fair’s Gypsy Caravan Stage.

She is a seasoned and respected Instructor, bringing a bounty of experience and knowledge to the classroom. She incorporates her well known compassionate, patient and effective teaching technique that truly produces quality dancers.

Yemaya shares her gift not only through her teaching, but also through her captivating stage presence…bringing with her a whirlwind of dazzling technique, mesmerizing veil work, endless shimmies and incredible improvisation. She is a gifted performer, always evolving and always true to her art.

Aside from Dancing, Yemaya is also the co-founder of VerdEnergia, a Permaculture Farm and Educational Retreat Center in Costa Rica where they teach everything from Belly Dance to Bio-Diesel. (
