Tribalation! featured June 2012

“Tribalation!” dance troupe was formed in 2003 as a duet between Sabine and Najma in order to bring “Improvisational Tribal Belly Dance” back to the Eugene dance scene. Nine years later, troupe ‘Tribalation!’ is going strong; troupe members Sabine, Melissa, Kathryn and Ann dance and teach 5 classes a week at the Celebration Belly Dance and Yoga studio, spreading their love of Tribal Belly Dance to a bevy of enthusiastic students. Tribalation’s style is grounded in Fat Chance Belly Dance ATS format, but over the years the troupe has added new movements from other sources and original combinations of their own. Troupe director Sabine has also brought her love of swords and zils to the troupe, adding depth and complexity to the troupe’s improvisational repertoire. The troupe’s name “Tribalation!” comes from the fusion of two words: “Tribal” and “Celebration.” The dancers are a tribe, and every performance is a celebration!
