Sabine started studying Middle Eastern Dance in 1988, and has been in love with the dance ever since, studying diverse styles from Egyptian cabaret, to Turkish, folkloric, Indian, Tribal Improv and ATS, to fusion styles. Her specialty is the sword dance, where the grace and flow of the dance movements are contrasted by the huge Turkish Scimitars that she balances. Sabine has taught her own special brand of “Dangerous Sword Dancing” at many workshops and festivals in many locations, and now is hosting her second annual “Dangerous Sword Intensive” here in Eugene this summer.
Sabine is the owner of Celebration Belly Dance and Yoga Studio (18th & Willamette), proudly putting the name of “Belly Dance” out to Eugene! She honors the roots of Improvisational Tribal Belly dance in her classes, with troupe Tribalation! and with student troupes Asafa and Sister Celebration. Sabine has enjoyed making the studio into a hub for belly dance workshops: in June, Celebration Belly Dance and Yoga will host Samantha Riggs for Bhangra and Bollywood workshops, and then Ashley Lopez for tribal fusion bellydance! You can keep up on all the happenings at the studio website, www.celebrationbellydanceandyoga.com or on Sabine’s website www.sabinedance.com.
Sabine joined the board of MEDGE in 1999 and has served on the board every year, as performance coordinator, Executive Secretary, Consultant, and Treasurer. Sabine believes MEDGE has served a very important role in helping to keep dance traditions alive!
MEDGE offers regular monthly shows the third Friday of each month at The Strand/Cozmic Pizza, 8th & Charnelton in Eugene, OR. Shows are family-friendly. 8:30 p.m., $5 suggested donation.
