There are a few moments in our lives that we remember with much clarity, and one of those moments for me, is the first time I saw belly dancing nearly ten years ago. I was a college student coming from a very small town, and so open to life and learning. I remember exactly the way I felt when I saw those beautiful women of all ages, sizes and physiques dancing with such joy and grace in their gorgeous costumes. After having danced jazz for many years, something inside me was awakened and I felt connected. From the moment on, I became devoted to learning belly dance from numerous instructors throughout Northern California, and soon after, performing on the troupe of my first teacher, Shoshanna of Arcata. After traveling to Greece and Tunisia, and dancing with the natives there, I better understood the importance of dance in other cultures, and this deepened my inspiration and love of the dance. It gives me such joy to share this dance with friends, students, and my two children Yasmine(4) and Samy(2). Dance is a gift that we offer each other in teaching, in celebrating together, and in performing. It is an honor to be the featured performer, and to take part in this ancient dance that brings us together in a most beautiful and deep way.
Currently I am teaching mother/daughter, beginning, and intermediate classes at the Amazon Community Center, and perform at Café Maroc in Eugene.
