Annette – featured 7/10 in 1st Annual Classic/Retro Middle Eastern Music Night

I distinctly remember my first dance class, ballet at the YMCA on a sunny summer morning. I must have been 4 or 5-years-old. I LOVED IT! I still love dance, movement and form, especially in the realm of belly dance. My interest is mainstream Middle Eastern Dance. My goal is to have a really good time, taking what I learned from my teachers and other dancers, adding a whole lot of myself, and hopefully, ending up with an artistic self-expression in the form of dance. My inspiration comes from many places, but mostly from the music. Previously, I studied and performed with the former Shami Mir Dance Ensemble; Directed by Samisha Shami and continued on as co-director of the troupe Ja La Nour with dancer Lola Powell. I have also taught classes and once held the position of Consultant on the board of directors for MEDGE. I consider myself a passionate hobbyist, wishing I had more time to dedicate to dance. I live and work in Eugene, currently dancing and performing both as a soloist and as a member/director of the troupe Al Nour.

“MEDGE presents an evening of dance to CLASSIC, TRADITIONAL, and RETRO Middle Eastern Music featuring Annette! Come jam with us to the traditional songs from the likes of Om Kalthoum and Musicians of the Nile! Bring on those old “Sultans” and “Eddie The Shiek” tunes from the 70s and 80s! A fun time is guaranteed for all.”

MEDGE offers regular monthly shows the third Friday of each month at The Strand/Cozmic Pizza, 8th & Charnelton in Eugene, OR.  Shows are family-friendly.  8:30 p.m., $5 suggested donation.
