Ruby McConnell is a writer, dancer, and geologist from Eugene, Oregon. Ruby has more than thirty years of dance experience in forms ranging from classical ballet to tap and belly dance. Ruby has studied dance at the University of Oregon, Oregon Ballet Theater, and in Rachel Brice’s 7 Elements program among many others. Ruby performed as a principal dancer with Metro Dancers in Portland Oregon from 2007 to 2009 and has performed with the Eugene Ballet, Busking Theater Company, and as a guest to RJD2. Ruby choreographed and danced for the Red Raven Follies, a vaudevillian circus, during their Fools Journey Tour which won the 2011 Best of Eugene Performance Group category. Ruby was also a founding collaborator and contributing writer for Harmonic Laboratory, a multidisciplinary arts group based at the University of Oregon that fuses electronic music, digital projection, and dance. She currently choreographs and dances for Black Magdalene, an organic darkwave band and is the Artistic Director of Red Moon Rising, a student-based belly dance troupe that performs throughout the Pacific Northwest.
