Troupe Azhaar performs improvisational Tribal style belly dance under the direction of Sabine and Tribalation. Performers Karen, Erin, Nina, Wendi and Kat have each been studying tribal belly dance with Sabine for between 2 and 7 years, with some of them coming from other dance disciplines, and others never having had dance before. The ladies of Azhaar have worked hard to learn the complex combinations of Tribalation’s tribal belly dance repertoire, including movements inspired by Egyptian folkloric and Raqs Sharki, classical Indian dance, Flamenco, and African Dance, and they have learned how to lead and follow using the combinations to create dance in the moment. They love the challenge of tribal improvisation, the beautiful and ornate costuming, the joy of dancing together as “sisters,” and being part of the family at Celebration Belly Dance and yoga studio.
As their love of dance has grown, they have each expanded to try different styles including sword dance, Egyptian style, tribal fusion choreography, drumming, folkdance, and more. The whole troupe will travel to “Tribal Fest 2015” in Sebastopol California this May, to learn and watch and experience dance
They are grateful to their teacher for being a mentor and for inspiring their continued growth in this dance.
