October 18, 2008 – Fall Festival Success!

Saturday, October 18, 2008, the Middle Eastern Dance Guild of Eugene proudly hosted our Fifth Annual Fall Festival – with dance workshops by Luminessah and Siobhan, all-day festival performances, and an evening show featuring Colette, Angelina, Dunyah, Innana, Janikea, Luminessah, Marah, Sabine and Siohban. Workshops held at Studio B, 189 W. 8th Ave. Performances were at The Strand/Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. 8th Ave.

“Luminessah Combinations Workshop,” 9:00am-10:30am. Luminessah’s signature slow, medium, and fast original combinations integrating movements from East Indian, Egyptian, funk, and hip hop with tribal style belly dancing. Previous tribal dance experience not necessary.

“Egyptian Folkloric Group Choreography with Cane,” 10:45am-12:15pm, with Siobhan Van Lanen. Drawing on her studies of the dance in Egypt, Siobhan shares dynamic combinations for beginners and advanced students that will deepen understanding of Egyptian style cane dance. Some canes will be provided but bring your own if you can.

Siobhan has studied dance since she was a child and has been a professional performer and teacher based in Corvallis, Oregon for the past 9 years.

Luminessah is a world interpretive dance troupe based in Eugene and formed in 2005. The four-woman troupe fuses movements from India,Turkey, Egypt, and North Africa with improvisational Tribal style dance. Members are: Ananda, Jeannie, Lila and Ziola. Luminessah has performed at events such as the Oregon Country Fair, the Eugene Celebration and Faerieworlds, as well as weddings, private parties, baby showers, and collaborative concerts. Festival of Dance Performances

12:30-7:30 p.m. – continuous dance performances on the stage at the Strand/Cozmic Pizza. Various styles of Middle Eastern Dance, from folkloric to fusion, displayed by performers from around the region. Festival dance spots open to non-members.

Shopping Bazaar

Several vendors were on hand, and there was a raffle. Juliari Designs, Ladysilk Hand Dyed Veils a jewelry vendor, and Tracy Stephens Photography – a great opportunity to have photos in your dance costume at an unbelievably low fee.


This year’s raffle was one of the best ever! Costumes, jewelry, accessories, massage donations, Dutch Bros gift certificates, pedicure donations, and much more!!! The raffle is always a fun part of the festival.

Gala Evening Show at 8:30 p.m.

The Evening Show featured Colette of Hood River, OR, formerly with FatChanceBellyDance; our fabulous workshop instructors Luminessah and Siobhan; Angelina, Dunyah, Innana, Janikea, Marah, and Sabine!

Colette began her bellydance training with FatChanceBellyDance in 1997 and was a principal dancer with the troupe for over 5 years. This past winter she moved from San Francisco to Oregon’s Columbia Gorge. As a solo dancer, Colette blends her ATS training with Tribal Fusion and more traditional forms of bellydance to create a fluid display of technique and emotion presented with control and grace.
